I am sixteen, going on seventeen...

Fri Apr 13, 2012, 5:05 AM

Actually, that is a lie. I turned seventeen on Wednesday.

Thanks muchly for all the birthday messages! A total of five people sent me the Arrogant Worms Happy Birthday song, which is a new record! (In case you're unaware, this is the song I send to everybody on their birthday.)

Anyway, I've had a very eventful three weeks, but after each day I kept wondering, "Is this journal-worthy? Hm... nah, I won't bother." That included a two-day engineering course, receiving a Gold Award at the National Concert Band festivals (as part of an ensemble, of course), and four days' work experience at Rolls-Royce. The past two days, however... I feel I'm obliged to write about them, no?
I'm seventeen now! Raaagh! :iconweekenddanceplz:

Here follows a list of awesome things that happened (that may or may not be related):

:bulletblue: I got Batman! DanananananananananananananananaBATMAN
:bulletblue: I used the money my Grandma gave me to buy Breakout Rocka 8-)
:bulletblue: I recruited a Feebas on Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue. Awww yeah.
:bulletblue: Razziary made me an awesome Pokéball present: razziary.deviantart.com/art/Ma…
:bulletblue: Mum got me a French Horn keyring and a book of Andrew Lloyd Webber pieces, arranged for horn. I spent Wednesday morning blasting these out full pelt.
:bulletblue: I realised that I have two more days' holiday than I'd previously thought. Yessssssss.
:bulletblue: My sister got me a mug with Mario characters on it :D This has earned a place in my Facebook profile picture. That is how cool it is.
:bulletblue: She also got me a tiny blue rabbit plush thing, with a brown moustache. I've named him Mudkip.
:bulletblue: Razziary and another friend (remember The Flute Player From Orchestra from a while back? Yes, her) took me out to see the film Mirror Mirror, which is essentially a Snow White spoof that was much more entertaining than I would've expected =P And by that I mean that it showed a man pretending to be a dog and other people wearing ships as hats, but also had seven actual dwarves (one of whom was Asian!) and puppet monsters. Yeaaah!
:bulletblue: The website xkcd.com is selling a T-shirt with this on it. I'm going to see if I can convince my Dad to let me borrow some cash...
:bulletblue: As a present to myself, I downloaded the Mario Coin sound and made it play whenever I get a text on my phone. 'Tis awesome.

In other news, I may be doing my first attempt at a YouTube MOC review sometime soon. I think I'll start off with the four miniMOCs I have; they're the least likely to fall apart on-camera, right?

That's all from me. Have a nice belated Easter!

Oooh, tough question. I've narrowed it down to white and silver. White appears more often than it should on my MOCs, mostly because I can't not use it (white unicorn, white Yanmega wings, Yin on Niyyan, icey Avalanche, white-bellied swordfish...?). Silver, meanwhile, has all the awesome shapes which I can use (notice how Cheetah, Seahorse, Hummingbird and Cancer all focus on using silver pieces in abstract ways?). That said, I haven't really used it as a main colour in ages, so maybe white is the new silver!

What about yours? :XD:

Probably black, so many shapes, SO MUCH VERSATILITY! And it goes with most colours.

I almost said black before, but it's so hard to photograph on its own... ;__;

A Gold Award? "Naaaah, not worthy enough for a journal,"
Four days working at Rolls-Royce? "Naaaah, not worthy enough for a journal,"
Getting a shitload of stuff for birthday and such? "YEAH, I'LL BE WRITING A JOURNAL FOCUSED ON THIS!!"

:iconwthplz:

How was that Rolls-Royce deal, though? I'm feeling curious.

I think the main reason why I didn't write about them was because it'd be difficult for people to relate...? There wasn't an awful lot to say about the Concert Band Festivals anyway.

As for Rolls-Royce: I spent four days in the Aero Repair and Overhaul section, where plane engines came in, were stripped down, repaired, rebuilt then sent off again. I pretty much whiled the day by standing around and watching, or doing some menial task like screwing bolts and stuff. It was valuable, though, and the engine anatomy is fascinating. Now that I think about it, there is a lot I could write about... maybe I'll give it a few days and write a second journal, hm?

And now I feel sort of ignorant for being completely unaware that Rolls-Royce made anything else besides cars/car engines ._. Had no idea they also worked with plane engines.
Speaking of plane engines, a couple of weeks ago I had to fulfill my obligatory military duty (aka spending a whole day at a military base, hearing speeches and be shown around some of the areas) and saw there some plane engines. First time I actually saw them completely naked, without any plating at all. Unfortunately, even if I could've inspected them, I don't know jackshit about engines, so looking at one would be the same as looking at a pile of scrap metal, all neatly bundled together

But yeah, write a bit more on that. Even though I have no damn clue on how engines work, it could be a nice read.

Yeah, apparently they got that response a lot :XD: People would turn up at interviews, say "I really like cars!" and get kicked out almost immediately for not bothering to look up what RR actually does.
Hehe, I know the feeling! The only difference was that I thought I knew jackshit about engines, only to find out that it's much more complicated than "The air goes in here, and uh... burns...". Maybe when I get round to writing it, I shall enlighten you :D

Breakout Rocka? Good set, but his left arm is awkward and I wish his back-foot was in gunmetal. Love the head color though. Speaking of Youtube did you hear that anyone can be a partner now!

I've found that I really like Breakout Rocka :XD: Everything flows nicely, and the trans-green pieces are gorgeous. As for YouTube, I don't really frequent it much, so I wouldn't know... ^^;

Sweet! It amazes me the things you call uneventful. If any one of those things happened to me, I'd blog about it. :P But then again, noting too exciting happens in my life. The last time anything did I accidentally closed Firefox while writing the journal. I was a little annoyed. :P

lol, no one cares about the rest of your eventful three weeks xD

And wasn't there someone you had second thoughts about sending the happy birthday song?

There were at least three people who said "I would send you the song, but I can't be bothered" so I guess the tally's up to 8 :D
